
Dr. Hatem A. Azim is a senior medical oncology consultant. He is also a senior oncology faculty at the College of the European School of Oncology.
He initially joined Cairo Cure as a junior physician after graduation in 2003. He completed his oncology training at the National Cancer Institute in Cairo before leaving to Europe in 2008 initially at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan before joining Institut Jules Bordet in Brussels. He has held several academic appointments, including scientific director at the Jules Bordet Institute in Brussels, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Oncology at the American University of Beirut and Adjunct professor of Tecnologico de Monterrey. He holds a Master’s degree in oncology from University of Newcastle Upon Tyne and a PhD from the Faculty of Medicine at the Université Libre de Bruxelles.
He published more than 140 manuscripts and 10 books and book chapters. He has been invited to speak in more than 20 countries, including at the annual conferences of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO). In addition, he served on several international guideline’s committees mostly in the field of management of breast cancer in young women
In recognition of his research contributions in the field of oncology, He has received several awards including the King Hussein Award of Cancer research (2023), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Merit Award (2015), the University of Paduva Breast Cancer Award (2015), the American Society of Cancer Research (AACR) scholar in training award (2011) and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) translational research award (2010).
After 15 years in Europe, Dr. Hatem Azim returned to Cairo Cure in 2024, as a Senior consultant and acting Chief Executive with a vision to solidify the status of Cairo Cure as a leading cancer center in the MENA region and further develop it to be on par with leading cancer centers worldwide.
